Chapter 25: Programming

Chapter 25
Programming

- Information about the project is collected

Programming - Design Analysis
Design- Problem Synthesis

"Problem Seeking" - by William Pena and Steven A Parashell

5 Step process
*Establishing goals
*Collecting and analyzing facts
*uncovering and testing products
*Determining needs
            - wants are separate from needs
*Stating the Problem

Considerations in Design
1. Form1
      1.1. Physical environment
2. Function
       2.1. People using the space
3. Economy
       3.1. Money
4. Time

Programming Format Includes
State Goals
List Client Requirements
List of spaces and their square footage
Survey of existing conditions
Budget requirements
Scheduling constraints
Expansion requirements

Human Factors
-Anthropometric
            - measurement of size, proportion and the range of motion.
-See image 25.4
Dynamic (Body Active) and Static (Body at Rest) Anthropometric

Ergonomics
-Study of the relation between human physiology and the physical environment.

Human Metabolism
-BTU - British Thermal Unit

-How much heat/energy a person emits.
ex.) Rest 400 BTU
Workout 2000 BTU

Heat energy is measured in joules.

Body loses heat by convection, evaporation, and radiation.

Generally comfortable Temp is 69-80 degrees
Comfortable humidity 30-65% and Tolerable is 20-70%
